Getting Started in Columbia MD
This is a collection of resources for folks who are starting to go green in the Columbia MD area. It includes resources about native landscaping, local vendors, and local organizations that you can get involved in to support our ecosystem.

Organizations
- Lauren's Garden Service - Lauren's does design, installation, and maintenance of eco-friendly gardens, and sells native plants.
- Columbia Association - CA is the HOA that covers all of Columbia. They run several sustainability initiatives and have great resources for local change.
- Frank's Produce & Greenhouses - Frank's is a beloved locally-owned nursery; they don't focus on native plants but often carry them, as well as landscaping plants, edible plants (like herbs and veggie starts), and bags of mulch and compost. They also have a great local produce market.
- Columbia MD CARES Committees - Several of the villages in Columbia have environmental committees, called CARES groups, that work with the Village Boards to promote sustainable land use practices in the villages. They run plant swaps, giveaways, seminars, and much more, and are a great way to get involved locally.

Programs
- Weed Warriors - a program that provides training about removal of invasive species
- Bay-Wise - Master gardeners in the Bay-wise program can visit your home and provide tailored guidance to adapting your property to be more sustainable and eco-friendly, with an emphasis on stormwater management, reducing soil erosion, and including native plants.
Events
- September 29 at 12:00: Native Plant Palooza 2024 (In-person) - this is a great event full of native plant vendors. normally it's held in the spring, but is delayed until fall in 2024 due to construction at the Robinson nature center parking lot
