Site Guide

Data pages

Any user can add organizations, programs, events, resources, collections, and shares to the database. The user who adds a page to the database becomes its default owner. Owners can edit the content of a page, and add or remove owners and editors. Editors can edit the content of a page, but can't add or remove owners or editors. If you're adding an event that happens regularly (like every year), you can easily copy last year's event and just update the details.

Collections

Collections are a way for users to curate a set of items that are relevant to a specific topic or location. For example, a community organizer in a particular town could make a collection about the resources in that town, that they could send to community members who are interested in getting involved. Or anyone could make a collection about common questions like "How do I convert my lawn to native plantings?" Collections are a powerful tool for capturing, expanding, and sharing the rich knowledge network that environmental activists have developed.

Shares

There are two kinds of shares: ongoing shares, and shares events that have a specific date and time. Ongoing shares are useful for local communities of gardeners who regularly have plant divisions or seeds to share with others, while share events might be better as events hosted by environmental groups.

Favorites

Users can 'favorite' any item in the database, and add their own notes to accompany the item. Because the focus of GreenWiki is on sharing information, other users can see your favorites and notes, and you can see theirs. You will see an alert on your home page about upcoming events that are in your favorites.
